We have been running sessions together in the Kissi Psychiatric Hospital for one year and the male and female prisons in Freetown for three years. Every week we run sessions of music, body percussion and singing with over 40 patients and 200 inmates!
Participants have been showing a great willingness to be sociable, as they improve their communication and an ability to let go and enjoy themselves! One doctor reported “patients are getting more sleep as it relieves stress. There has even been an increase in releasing patients”. Whilst people who previously did not come out of their cells now do so when they hear the music.
The beauty of partnering with WAYout is that they’re open to participants to even after they’re released and able to continue on the programmes! Teamwork, collaboration and partnerships are vital to the success of our work. With your support we can continue to support amazing projects like this one.
