Exciting news! We are a new partner organisation with BBC’s ‘Get Singing’ initiative which will launch in September.
Get Singing is the initiative to encourage primary school children around the UK to sing together in playgrounds, assemblies and lessons on BBC Music Day – Thursday Sept 26th.
Last year a thousand schools took part, and we’re aiming to double that reach in 2019. This year the collaboration involves BBC Education’s Bring the Noise, Young Voices, Sing Up, Ex Cathedra’s Singing Playgrounds, Chiltern Music Therapy, Music Action International and BBC Ten Pieces.
The premise is simple. The BBC Music Day website will host an accessible video resource for teachers to play out on the day. This requires no advance preparation and no expert knowledge, so all schools can be involved with a simple vocal exercise to get children singing.
BBC Music Day celebrates the power of music to change lives with events across the UK and broadcasts on TV, Radio and digital. The fifth BBC Music Day will take place on Thursday September 26th with events and broadcasts across the week. The centrepiece for this year’s activity is a celebration of music and wellbeing; the power of music to inspire, to bring us together and make a positive impact.
Our Harmonise Resource for schools will be part of the initiative with video tutorials, sing-along exercises, and stories from refugees we are working with.
