Bradley | Student Volunteer

Bradley joined the Music Action International team on his student placement from the University of Manchester. As well as providing amazing support with a variety of tasks in the office, he took on Manchester’s famous 10k run in May 2017.

My name is Bradley Pascall, a Film Studies student from the University of Manchester. I have been volunteering with Music Action International who help raise awareness of refugee issues and support those affected by war trauma. I have learnt about their fundraising activities as well as their numerous music programmes. Despite having never done any fundraising before, I was inspired to sign up for the Manchester 10K to support their wonderful work!

A record-breaking 2,400 Manchester University students and staff members ran. The race took us round by Deansgate, Old Trafford, and other Manchester sights. It was tough at first but being part of the crowd of 40,000 runners was both inspiring and exciting!

The last 2km was really tough but the cheering crowd started to get bigger and bigger the closer you got to the centre, all the while running towards the Hilton, the largest building in the UK outside of London. The feeling of making it over the finish line made it all worth it.

I think if anyone really wants to raise money, there are so many things you can do and Music Action International is definitely a great cause to get behind. I found the SimplyHealth 10K race to be really accessible and remember you don’t have to run a sub-hour race to raise money for a cause you care about. After all, if I can make it all the way with a training plan consisting of beer and takeaways, you definitely can!

Are you running the Manchester 10k or Half Marathon on Sunday 20 May 2018?

We will cover the cost of entry (£38 / £44) for anyone willing to take on the challenge and raise £175 to support our work! If you are interested in running, please contact alice@musicaction.org.

Alice will also be happy to chat to you about any other fundraising ideas you have whether it’s a bake sale, live music night, marathon, or anything in between.
